Can you use the verizon motorola Q without a data plan?

I was looking at the motorola Q on ebay that i was interested in but i wasnt sure if you have to sign up for a data plan, i just have them basic plan on verizon and i wouldnt be using the internet on the Q anyways. also is the motorola Q a slow working phone?

When I had my Motorola Q9m Verizon didn’t require any data plan on it, however things have changed since then. Any Smartphone you want to activate on Verizon (even if it didn’t require a data plan when it was first released) requires the data plan. I’ve since upgraded my phone a couple times since I had that phone and I let my friend use that phone but they gave it back to me because Verizon stated that she had to add the data plan to activate the phone.

I didn’t really like my Motorola Q9m because it was kinda sluggish. If I received too many text messages my phone would start becoming extremely slow and the Q9m is supposed to be a lot quicker than the Q so I wouldn’t count on the Q being a quick phone.
